There is a common stereotype that videography is easier than photography because “you just hold the camera and press record”. This is furthest from the truth.
Videography requires far more equipment than photography. For example, our setup for one video camera includes a stabilizer, camera, filter(s) lighting, v-mount battery, 2 SD cards, field mic, and an off camera monitor. Alternatively, our setup for one photo camera includes the camera, lens, filter(s), on or off camera flash, battery and typically 2 SD cards. On any given wedding date, we typically operate up to 5 video cameras as opposed to up to 3 photo cameras, which drastically multiplies the equipment required for each service.

In addition, videography services generate upwards of 500-700GB of content whereas photography services generate approximately 200GB. We must ensure that we have a sufficient number of quality SD cards to capture the data, as well as a number of external storage devices to retain the data after our deliverable date.
With increased data also comes increased culling and editing times. To edit a photo, we would typically adjust the colors or apply our preset, crop, and maybe remove an item or two. To edit a film, we must match the audio to the visuals, prepare a storyline, color grade, create subtitles, and add music to drive your film, sound design which is our bedrock and then ambience and foley of the day to help bring it to life.
We encourage you to separate videography from photography and realize they are their own independent works of art. An investment in videography is not just an investment in more equipment or higher storage costs, but in preserving memories with intentionality that will last a lifetime.
